General Information & Policies

How Early Should I Register?
Early! Our classes are small and many fill quickly, so we recommend you register as soon as possible to get your class of choice- six months in advance is not too early! You can call us and register to be on the wait list for any class that is full. Cancellations do happen, and you may be able to get into a class at the last minute, so don't hesitate to call to check on availability.

Registration & Payments
Registrations are non-transferable. Full payment is due at the time of registration, either by credit card, check or cash. Classes without a minimum number of registrations may be cancelled. (See "course cancellations" for details.)

Student Withdrawal/ Cancellations
If we, MFS, must cancel a course, for whatever reason, students will receive a full refund of any payments made for that course, including supply fees. Because of registration costs, class "run" minimums, and other services, including faculty contracts and material acquisitions, the Michigan Folk School is required to charge cancellation fees to students who change their itineraries.
Once students are accepted into a class, cancellation fees apply, regardless of the reason for canceling. Any request for cancellation must be made by email at registrar@mifolkschool.com.  Cancellation of enrollment more than 30 days prior to the first day of class results in no cancellation fee. Students who cancel their enrollment less than 29 days prior to the first day but more than 21 days prior to the start of the class, will receive a refund, including supply fee, minus a $50 cancellation fee to cover administrative costs.  With respect for the time and energy instructors invest in preparing for courses, including ordering supplies, students who cancel their enrollment 21 days or less prior to the first day of the course are not eligible for a refund. Some courses, such as  Timber Framing courses, have different cancellation policies. Those policies will be noted on the listing for the individual course page.

WCC Classes Student Withdrawal/ Cancellations
For classes that administered through Washtenaw Community College (you checked out from their system) would require direct correspondence with their administrative offices.  You can reach the WCC Community Enrichment office at 734-677-5060.

Tuition
Tuition rates are listed with each class description on this site. Tuition rates can also be found at the bottom of each page of our printed course information material.

Lodging & Meals
Tuition does not include costs for lodging and meals or class materials fees, unless expressed in the course description and tuition information.

Materials Fees & Supplies
Students in craft courses typically use materials in the making of their projects, and in non-craft classes there are sometimes additional fees for copies and such. Materials fees can range from $0 to over $300. Because the amount of materials used will vary by student, materials fees are not included in the tuition amount. Classes with estimated materials fees in excess of $100 are noted in its class description. Payment for materials purchased from the instructor or the school is required on the first day of class.

Course Cancellations
Mi Folk School will conduct courses for which a minimum number of students are registered. If the Mi Folk School must cancel a course, registered participants will be given the opportunity to enroll in another course, with no transfer penalty. A full refund will be given to participants who do not wish to transfer. Mi Folk School is not responsible for nonrefundable airline tickets in any circumstance.

Accessibility
Mi Folk School's terrain is hilly and uneven. Public facilities at The Michigan Folk School DO NOT have handicapped-accessible entrances or restrooms. If you have mobility restrictions, please contact us to discuss access to entrances or restrooms and other facilities as will make special arrangements to accommodate everyone.
