Organic Gardening Certification Course
The Michigan Folk School, in partnership with Washtenaw Community College, is offering an Organic Gardener Certification Program. This program will provide instruction and practical training in organic gardening practices, sustainable agriculture, and farm-to-table food production, designed for the needs of homesteaders, small-scale farmers, and those preparing to work in farming and food production.
Classes can be taken individually or as a series leading to a certificate. Individuals who complete eleven (11) classes from the list below, pass a final exam, and fulfill an 18-hour volunteer component on an approved farm or urban garden, will receive a Organic Gardening Certificate from The Michigan Folk School in partnership with Washtenaw County College. Students will have up to two years to complete their class and volunteer hours. Organic Gardening Certificate students must buy a course pack, which is only available for purchase at the Michigan Folk School. A separate per class course pack can also be purchased for non-certificate students, if desired. |

- Working with students to design or maintain an elementary school garden
- Creating a horticulture therapy program at a senior center
- Helping a neighborhood association create an urban garden.
- Sharing environmentally-friendly gardening practices at community events
- Establishing vegetable gardens to meet local nutritional needs
- Beautifying community sites for special events or community activities that attract local residents and tourists
